Decantus and Vinturi Wine Aerators compared

Having recently added the Decantus to our list of available aerators I thought it would be helpful to visually show the differences between the Vinturi and the Decantus. There are very few places you will ever get the opportunity to see these products side by side.

The packaging of  the basic Decantus To Go is a blister pack rather than the gift box of the Vinturi. Decantus is also available in a myriad of ways – with gift boxes etc but Wine-Aerator.ca is only carrying to To Go Version. The gift box is not a factor if you are intending to purchase for yourself but may be if you are gifting the aerator. The Decantus To Go does not come with a sediment screen so you just pour the way you normally would if you suspect there may be some sediment.

Once out of the package there is an apparent size difference between the Vinturi and the Decantus when they are in their respective mini-stands/drip catchers. But the difference is not really there in the aerator itself. They are both virtually the same height. There is a shape difference and some people may prefer the feel of the Decantus as it provides a natural place for you to grip. Both are easy to grip. I have not shown the storage pouches but the Vinturi comes with a leather like pouch and the Decantus To Go version has a fabric pouch.

When the Aerators are in their optional pouring stands there is no practical difference in size. Note that in the picture on the right below, that the Vinturi is sitting in the Decantus stand. It works just fine that way. Although I didn’t take a picture – The Decantus works fine in the Vinturi stand too.  There is no drip catcher on the Decantus stand but you could easily just put the rubber/plastic stand that comes with your aerator underneath to act as a catcher. The Vinturi stand is two piece so you can take it apart for storage. This may or may not be important for you.

The most significant physical difference between the two products is apparent when you look at the area in which you pour the wine.

The Decantus offers a huge pouring area by comparison.I have never had trouble pouring through the Vinturi but I have seen people that do struggle a bit. The Decantus will help people who have shaky hands.

Now if your difficulty is due to over-consumption – all bets are off.

Of course the big question is do aerators work. You will not be displeased with either. Both work just fine.

Why change the name? It was time.

It was a great name when all that was being sold were a few products – all being made by the folks at Vinturi. But there is more selection now – not only with accessories but with other wine aerators. In addition to the top selling Vinturi products, I am also offering other aerators. Currently we have the Rabbit aerating pourer and by this time next week I expect to be able to offer the Decantus wine aerator as well as the companion stand. It is worth noting that the Decantus stand will also work with the Vinturi wine aerator. After the Decantus I will be adding one other style of aerator.

Rabbit Aerator Pourer now at CanadaVinturi

One of the newest entrants to the instant decanting and aerating marketplace is the Rabbit Aerator made by Metrokane. I stumbled across one just before Christmas and it was calling my name. It has a lot of good things going for it – so I decided there needed to be some choices available on the new web store.

At $31.95 I think it represents an excellent value and one that is worthy of consideration if you are shopping for an instant aerator. I love it when a Canadian invention really does a great job. Ravi has created  both an instant red wine chiller and decanter system. These can be used as stand-alone products or as an integrated modular system. I can’t think of any other company that has done this. Well maybe Vinturi and the Vinturi stand.  I have put up some fairly extensive details on the Ravi Chiller as well as the Ravi Decanter system at the store – so I won’t repeat it all here.

What I think RaviSolutions has done is to take some fresh thinking and applied it to make wine taste better and allow for easier service. Not inexpensive but way less than the cost of a temperature controlled cellar or even a decent wine fridge. I do like the fact that the chiller can be used on things other than wine – like chilling my Irish whisky without ice. I also really like the idea of the multi-part decanter which is a breeze to clean.

Vinturi – new ways to buy in new combinations

Vinturi Tower and Vinturi Deluxe Gift Set – I was asked…

If I could supply some other products. I originally wanted to keep it very simple but this past holiday season I was asked numerous times about the Vinturi Tower or the Vinturi Deluxe Gift set. Not a problem – you asked and now I have them.

The first addition is the Vinturi Tower. This is for someone who already has a Vinturi. Do you need this? The honest answer is no – This does nothing to enhance the wine but it does make it easier to use for some people. The stand comes in 2 sections so that it is easy to set up and take apart for storage. All you do is insert your vinturi into the top of the stand and now you are able to pour one-handed. There is a little screen at the bottom that sits under the wine glass which will help catch any drips if you pull the glass away too soon. The stand does allow a novice user a bit of comfort when pouring thru the Vinturi. This might come in handy when you are letting your guests pour their own. Also makes a decent gift for anyone you know who loves their Vinturi.

The Vinturi Deluxe Gift set is for someone who does not already own a Vinturi. Comes with the Vinturi, sediment filter, small travel base, storage pouch and the Tower that I described above.
